its already hard enough to rank the top Beatles, VU, Beach Boys songs among themselves and even harder to try to mix them together for a proper ranking
ranking albums is a lot easier than ranking songs too tbh. but yeah list will be bigger regardless because there are too many that cant be left out
yea albums easier. might do a 20-30 song list
whats ur #1 album?

i guess i should end up making a few separate lists tbh, also one of top psych songs and maybe an entirely separate one for top jazz. and the overall top list ofc

That's what I've been doing, at least separating my rock and r&b lists although when it comes time to merge them into one big list I'm pretty f***in drained on the whole process

Honestly your list with one song by one artist is more frustrating to me than anything because I just look at it wondering what you thought of the artist's second or third best songs
humor me because I care
Blonde on Blonde
no question
Wish the choice was this easy for me
going to really need to take a step back and look at them independent of my history with them and my bonus track system
Elevators and Yardbirds lookin real f***in nice lately
omg I just realized I get to ignore Galaxies rules for 1967
Basement Tapes already album of the year

first you tried to say you didnt stan Roger and now youre almost ready to put it your beloved goat's magnum opus?
but yeah you definitely need to step back without the bonus tracks because incorporating bonus tracks into an album ranking is heresy

youre turning into quite the list mon yourself

I been curating some of these playlists since 2003
would put my psychedelic list against anybody on Steve Hoffman's
I'm equally as much of a list mon except mine's more on iTunes and galaxy has incredible forum list finesse now :datass:

That's not my beloved goats magnum opus
Like I said this thread is more about ranking each artist's cumulative strength for each year but just for the album ranking I will disregard bonus tracks

im trying to put some good "best of" playlists together but its hard for me to care about them much when I never use playlists like that. 90% of my music listening is picking an album to listen to and the other 10% is picking specific songs to listen to. never ever shuffle although i should. and curating specific ordered playlists to listen to repeatedly like some people do (lordie) just seems bizarre to me

ah but are you considering the full Basement Tapes box set as his magnum opus, or just your curated selection of highlights? one is a valid opinion and one is just a theoretical "what could have been"
i love basement tapes but yeah im not ready to put it above Bringing/Highway/Blonde/Blood yet. but out of the stuff i've heard i'd say its after those, id prefer those basement highlights over the best early stuff or something like desire

How do you listen to your music? Were you considering going back to iTunes or some sort of really organizable digital form again

yeah i mean the thread is about songs anyway so going into best albums is already off topic

I feel like best albums has been done to death on ktt and everywhere. I'm really enjoying playing the long game with the songs thing.

you want the short or long overview?

The top handful of songs off the basement tapes blow away the top handful of songs off any other Dylan album and there's dozens of other beautiful gems on there so I'm calling it the complete basement tapes for 1967 because I get to make the rules this time
Just doing my part to end the accepted mythology that Dylan peaked like Icarus then disappeared in '66 when he flew even higher in '67

basement tapes your favorite thing he's done? can I see your playlist you made of the highlights?
they're still some versions on the 75 release I prefer over the bootleg release especially Goin' To Acapulco oh man that version slays
What do you think
