Me and you on the same wavelength. Been listening to so much 70’s music lately and it’s great but I’ll always see the 60’s and 80’s as superior. It’s such a transitional decade. Melodically at least music was at its most potent in those decades.

at least your finally putting in work on the 70s

    Unchained Melody > both

    1. Unchained Melody
    2. Tracks of My Tears
    3. Nowhere to Run
    4. Ooo Baby Baby
    5. Lovin’ you
    HM: Papa’s new Bag

yeah Unchained Melody a cliche for me at this point and its debatable whether Spector was even on it

Yeah Bob's albums were stunners too obv and he had higher highs that year but Rubber Soul is the one. Cracked off in two weeks invented the idea of an album being a self contained piece of rock art with one consistent sound and vibe throughout and not just a collection of whatever you had been recording and charting. Highway 61 was approaching the same thing, possibly even more influential in its structure but I don't think even he was actively attempting a coherent sound necessarily till Blonde.

Rubber Soul also has one of the a time best covers too which just could not had possible conveyed the vibe better. Hm to Bringing It All Back Home with its hints and secrets.

Pete wrote this just because of how much he liked Smokeys enunciation of the word in Tracks Of My Tears "she's just a substitute"

Rubber Soul is a great album and I can respect where you're coming from, but Highway feels just as coherent especially in it's structure like you said. Titanic opening track in Rolling Stone, hard hitting middle track in Thin Man and then Desolating Row...personally I like the songs better on Highway so I gotta give it to that.
BoB always felt like an expansion to the success and sound of Highway. Also Highway's cover is dope too

You just can't beat the 4 headed monster when the planets align I'm giving them a tie for the year considering Dylan's peaks are way higher but Rubber Soul is too flawless
