I’m a pretty big Raspberries fan, and so I finally decided to try Eric Carmen’s first solo album. I always assumed it would be a little rough, but I was pleasantly surprised. So much of it is kind of just Beach Boys worship.

Then there’s the famous All By Myself, which I don’t think anyone’s actually listened to it in full. It’s such a shame that the “single edit” out of context in movies and TV, has made it basically a punchline. It’s a bleak 7 minute epic. You can hear the genuine desperation in his voice. It’s like he’s trying to climb out of a pit. It deserves way more respect.

gave this a shot but it's same as The Raspberries I guess, just not really for me. didnt read your full post and was laughing when All By Myself came on lol. similar to Im Not In Love by 10cc this year in that its so ubiquitous I just never need to listen to it on purpose ever.

stopped after Fire of Unknown Origin

the 4 after Agents of Fortune are at least decent-good and usually have a good highlight but their first 4 are definitely the best

This album is not great or anything, but it’s an interesting curiosity. Apparently this was a glam supergroup made up of former members of Sparks, Roxy Music, and Marc Bolan’s 60’s band. There’s some cool stuff on here for sure.

10cc's Original Soundtrack album is pretty great. Perfectly represents the state of pop music of that time with Progressive Pop leanings and just in general a strong performance on all fronts.
