the often maligned Flo and Eddie
(aka 2 of the guys from The Turtles)

Really nice to hear the Harvest songs stripped down and Neils falsetto probably never got more pure than it was here. Crazy how well he does it live, the Gold Rush songs performed might be vocally stronger than the album versions tbh.

the ones where they're just singing is fine. it's the extreme lowbrow "comedy" routines with them that make the period zappa's nadir in the eyes of many. zappa's fault and not theirs though
or this bullshit that is almost impossible to sit through

P**** Dimension
his peak era was just too long and powerful so he had to add in a year of trash in the middle. also a personally trash year for him too as it ends with a casino they played in burning down (inspiring Smoke on the Water) and a week later having a near death accident. both caused by dumbass fans, i'm sure it didn't make him any less cynical
goatness promptly resumes in 1972

the injuries also permanently lowered his voice and gave him chronic pain for life iirc. and apparently no one in the audience knew what was going on with chaos, some people thought he was killed or it was part of the act
the time recovering made him lock down in the studio and make creative breakthroughs
The Same Old Rock by Roy Harper is an incredible 12 minute long track and it’s one of my all time favorite folk songs, but from 1:23-3:05 he sings this really beautiful melody that I always wish he would return to towards the end—yet it sadly never happens. The rest of it is musically genius, but I always have like audio blue balls because of that.
