and yeah pigpen basically was a pub random non-musician type of guy. i like some of the Pigpen songs cuz they can do some crazy jams like Turn On Your Lovelight or Good Lovin but he doesnt really have any good vocal moments and gets really annoying with extended improvisation 'rap' thing that he does for minutes on end. took more tolerance but the jam a monstrous 30minute Pigpen song has a different energy that they didnt capture the same way after he died. he's the root to their humble origins which they later strayed very far from as a stadium selling blockbuster jam band. this year is really his last hurrah even though he was only on like 3 or 4 songs per night at this point. 1972 he was almost totally in the background

@op Ramases album is pretty good but this guy doesnt exactly have a compelling vocal presence or songwriting despite the wild backstory. downright annoying vocals on Quasar One and You're the Only One. music is good

I dig the droney vocal thing they were going for on Quasar One alot tbh. Definitely some repetitive lyrics.... You're The Only One Joe... but worth it for the highlights.
