Throbbing zenith
Have you not heard close to the edge?
Ayers was up to some mischief
alot of moments on this album sound exactly like some proto-Roxy/Eno

@Elric annexus quam is pretty good, getting some slight late 60s mothers of invention vibes

feel like you could count the amount of bands that were this heavy in 1970 on one hand
Revisited Plastic Ono Band. I was crazy for not connecting with this in the past. Still prefer Ram and All Things Must Pass overall, but this is really strong stuff. That double hit of Love and Well Well Well is something else. All the raw emotion of a Nick Drake song followed by pure grit and anger. God had me chocked up when he gets to that “I only beleive in myself” part and then “the dream is over” just solidifies it. Must have been a gut punch at the time.
Plastic Ono Band changed my life. Imo it’s the strongest Beatles solo work. Incredible music.
Idk if you or anyone ITT has heard of this show, but back in the early 00’s, VH1 had a series called Classic Albums that interviewed band members & producers of classic albums. They’ll play the master tracks, individually, for each song & break down the vocals & instruments for each track.
Plastic Ono was covered on this show, and the producer talks about how John did “Primal Therapy” during the recording of this, which means he would act out being born again from the womb. The footage they show is so intense, he’s in a fetal position screaming & crying.

No doubt
@op how long do you discuss a year, before you move on to the next one?
Just curious how your formatting works, I see 1970 has been up for a few days now! Great thread!
Yeah I just looked at the album releases in 1970 & Plastic Ono would def be my fav. S*** is so depressing & raw. It’s absolutely insane you got music like Plastic Ono & Sabbath’s Paranoid dropping within months of eachother

the 50s and early 60s were usually only a couple months but by 1967 there was dramatically more quality music to swim through in all genres so its almost taking me half a year at this point
we been on 1970 for months already and im pretty well done my research and have started whittling down my ranked list
