yeah shes the only one that landed a classic with Proud Mary (which they started performing in '69 but dint release till '71). Roberta Flack also crushed her Leonard Cohen cover
feel like they all heard Wilson Picketts version of Hey Jude like
Arethas version of Eleanor Rigby isn't even touching Ray Charles version from '68

What about Fats?
ill give it to Clapton for finally pulling up with something pretty substantial here, but also
"I have finally found a way to live
In the color of the Lord"
what color would that be, Mr. "Get the wogs out. Get the coons out. Keep Britain white"

Hard soul
What about Fats?
nah Fats brought the "roll" to rock and roll and was just a source of infinite warmth
Ray invented the cold ass hard ass soul song
this is as close as Fats got and it sounds like hes specifically trying to do a Ray to me

I also really like how this intro starts out like they're gonna dive into some complex rock god banger then transitions into a Buddy Holly ditty

You know it had to, man. Something like Son of a Preacher Man probably had him look hard as f*** in the mirror.

He already had his mojo back after the tv special but he must've realized going back home was the next move thanks to Dusty (and Jerry Wexler)
Can remember my pops reciting the gibberish Scottish part when I was a kid @RVI
he memorized it phonetically when they were teenagers
