it's like Otis over a Kinks song
pre-Cosmic Slop P-Funk was truly out there

the chick who comes in at 2:24 is so unexpected and sporadic with her chirpy singing style lol
my friend who sings does not dig it but it always gives goosebumps if not watery eyes. And one of Georges earliest spoken word bits

Have you not dipped into all the main P-Funk albums?
I prefer the first half of the 70s tbh as you said out there

Yeah I've heard everything they've done
a lot of the earlier stuff is more esoteric and ethereal while the later stuff is more "sci-fi stoner boogie"

Yeah they were branching out into a lot more directions on the early stuff (especially rock). The mythology is stronger on the later stuff but the music is less unpredictable nonstop funk.
The early days had country ditties, abstract fragmented experimentations, cataclysmic gospel bangers, 10 minute rock guitar explorations etc etc
best band on the planet. Might have to listen to p-funk for the next couple days

the esteemed psych collector/DJ whose recs I use, i think he stans that 2nd one though with the red cover. that one is probably better tbh since its less patchy but i dont remember it having anything as good as that long track i posted
combining the highlights from both 1968 albums into one might have made a truly great album imo
the Elliot Smith vibe on this one is uncanny @rise_zero

no matter what Ye might want you to think, this is a goat song and still has a valid message today

1967-1968 is when James Brown starts getting into a groove and dropping classic singles on the regular

Also probably the first time someone got a bunch of kids to sing the chorus
been done a million times since
I'd say '64 is when the golden era began with Out Of Sight
