So dylans my goat and his tour was easily the best that year but ive been debating giving it to the 13th Floor Elevators debut for being a more concise, unique, wild burst of creativity. Heard it?
also strong hm for Yardbirds Roger The Engineer
Never got into it, but I love the first song on the album, 'You're Gonna Miss Me'.
Absolute banger

Yeah it is however there are a few songs on there arguably even more

I shall give it another shot
finally doing a super close mono vs stereo Revolver listen
been listening in stereo for eons and only just realized ive been partially f***ing up (already did this for Kinks and Small Faces years ago but now gotta do it for Beatles, Yardbirds and Elevators)
Side One
1. Taxman; instruments sounds better not isolated and pauls bass is especially punchy in mono.
2. Eleanor; stereo im used to is fine. i like the isolated strings and vocal coming in on either side at perfect times.
3. Im Only Sleeping; mono version too muddy and misses alot the subtle textures in johns vocal. harmonies way more pristine in stereo too. Guitar solo tease in mono is cool but the backwards effect heard in more clarity in stereo.
4. Love You Too; the droning indian instruments definitely sound better as one big mono thrum. also george's vocal not as harshly front and centre.
5. Here There & Everywhere; stereo version has a little more vocal clarity but im still not trying to hear all the instruments in the right ear smh.
6. Yellow Submarine; this one is pretty close but having ringos vocal a little more spread out on mono is preferable.
7. She Said She Said; another close one but the vocal is already evenly spread and you can hear all those guitars in a bit more clarity in stereo.
66 should include Uptight by Stevie Wonder (it got popular 66 but came out I think in December? 65) can’t be bothered looking it up and You Can’t Hurry Love by The Supremes
Side Two
8. Good Day Sunshine; who gives a f***
9. And Your Bird Can Sing; this one is the craziest. mono version missing worlds of vocal nuance buried a bunch of echo or something. feels like layers of johns personality missing from the song. lots of percussive stuff you can barely hear as well.
10. For No One; nice to hear the instruments coming through both sides in mono but not sure if it's worth the price of losing pauls bass clarity in stereo. probably is.
11. Doctor Robert; pretty close but stereo has a little more clarity, especially for the keyboard on the feeling fine part. pauls bass a little punchier.
12. I Want To Tell You; just sounds a little brighter in mono for some reason
13. Got To Get You Into My Life; dang rings drums are p**** in stereo. also nice not to have all those horns blasting in one ear.
14. Tomorrow Never Knows; cant believe this one wasnt intended to be heard in stereo because all those seagull effects, backwards instruments and tape loops etc divebombing from one ear to the next hits way harder than just mono.
bonus tracks;
Rain; considering how famously crazy ringo went on this he sounds kinda neutered in mono. harmonies also not as pristine.
Paperback Writer; this one of the other craziest differences... ok tune in stereo, monstrous banger in mono

Listening on speakers or headphones?
Listening on speakers or headphones?
back and forth on both
annoying process

Some of the stereo Beatles sounds ok on speakers to me but unbearable in headphones
Didn't compare as closely as you but didn't find a single song before 1968 to be better in stereo
Listening on speakers or headphones?
just permanently deleted stereo Here There & Everywhere with a 335 playcount i added to my iTunes in probably 2004
emotionally attached to a digital file smh

I'll check later but I don't see how the stereo can have the "actual vocal" when the mono is objectively the true version

its a dramatic difference you'll see what i mean
its like a whole other vocal track was added in stereo and john is right there instead way over there in the hallway

mm listening now its not a terrible mix but if anything i think the vocal is too loud
i like it better in the mono how it doesnt overpower the guitar. and also generally just another example of how the rocking ones sound more focused and powerful in mono. that lead guitar part going on at like :45 has the emphasis it should in mono
dont know how you can stand the vocal being so far to one side in Eleanor Rigby though the hard vocal panning is probably the thing that bothers me most
this stereo remix of it from 2015 is better btw

also these 1999 stereo remixes of these 2 other songs for some random comp.

didnt realize The Everlys '66 album Two Yanks In England was mostly played and written by The Hollies
checking it out now
@Elric @fuk_an_ad_lib yall ever heard this early 1966 Hendrix instrumental?
his first writing credit (along with the decent b-side "Knock Yourself Out" not on youtube)

definitely a charming nugget esque quality

reminds me of some of this scuzzy Buddy Guy jams I found earlier in the decade. forgot to keep checking out his stuff.
@RVI Yardbirds banger I Can't Make Your Way mono verses sounds way better but theres an amazing washboard clatter or something to counterpoint the guitar solo which is completely inaudible
cant decide which one i want to keep
