I guess everyone involved were starting to push the envelope further after years of international crossover success. This is the first year their hits stop being so vanilla so that they’re played with other pop artists at that time (The way you do the things you do, I hear a Symphony) and start being more R&B like Otis, Wilson and other new guys

My top 5 would be Kinks - Face to Face, Beach Boys - Pet Sounds, Stones - Aftermath, Beatles - Revolver, Dylan - Blonde on Blonde

It’s tough to be definite because they’re so hard to compare against each other but I do know that if I contrast front to back enjoyment, Dylan would be behind the other 4; maybe ahead of the Stones.
