It had some good acting/characters but didn't really do anything interesting enough to earn that runtime imo. The one two punch of this and Manhunt is the nadir of career before his locks back in again over the next couple years.

I think anybody that does research before watching M probably does view it through that lense. dramatically better film than this. Probably in my top 20ish.

This Land Is Mine a much stronger anti-fascist film as well which shouldn't have surprised me cause it's Renoir.
