Jean Gabin paid a visit and spoke in english with cigarette-laden french accent. cinematography is impressionistic and noirish if you say. i liked the bobo getting drunk with distorted effect. classic redemption story for sure
I liked how Claude Rains played a scruffy drunk and Thomas Mitchell played a diabolical parasite lol both very against type roles for both of them.
Apparently Ida Lupinos character was originally supposed to be a prostitute but they had to change it to calling her a "hash slinger" in the most derogatory way possible
The hammertime montage toward the beginning was amazing too, could almost call it psychedelic. Wonder if Dumbo's drunk scene inspired it.
Very atmospheric flick, especially that finale. I loved it.

I think I knew that but totally forgot. Fkn Nazi bootlicker still knew how to throw some visuals together.
Apparently Lang quite the project because him and Gabin were beefing over queen Marlene
Juicy production section on wiki now that I'm looking lol.

The Glass Key
Mannn I did not realize that the Coens pilfered an old obscure noir so heavily for Miller's Crossing. The language and character dynamics are spot on.
