i think youre being extremely generous to say it visualizes near a Dali painting
and its an absurdly hard rank beside traditional narrative things when the quality of the craft is quantifiable
It's an avant-garde quality to it. They have the audacity to abstain away from narratives and focus on images that invokes a meaning. Sometimes it's for innovation. The thought of surrealism is not to question it yeah that's ants on his hands, but it's not. At least, that's what I digest out of Raul Ruiz's Three Crowns of the Sailor. Films like Anemic Cinema or The Fall of House of Usher also do that though.

The eye slice and ant hand are just some things that came to them in dreams that they thought were provocative enough to turn into a movie so yeah I'm not trying to think of any deep metaphors but I can't say that i enjoy it either
I don't like to remember my own dreams, hate hearing about other people's dreams and very seldom enjoy dream sequences in films

@sace @DELON which one of y'all told me about Basil Zaharoff? just read that Eisenstein wanted to make a film about him when he visited the states on his world tour
couldn't convince the american producers to fund anything tho
Dunno? Are you reading his Wikipedia? They were conceived to make The American Tragedy before Sternberg
He made an unfinished film in Mexico though
@RVI @twinkletoez now that the thread has entered the sound era it's going to be a good opportunity to study the og's

Because the whole industry was transitioning to sound it ended up being one of the weakest years of the twenties
you should check out Pandora's Box though for one of the most entrancing performances you'll ever see from an actress. I'm not talking Joan of Arc either this woman is so full of life I guarantee you'll fall in love with her within 2 minutes like I did.
