I think the only direction that would make sense now is for Guts to put his entire being at risk to not only get Casca back, but to tear Griffith apart as well. The way the beast of darkness is permanently in him without the Berserker armor is very telling too, he might lose his sanity without him having to put that s\*\*\* on

Seeing my guy spiral the way he did made me wince when I was reading it. All those years of taking it on the chin just to have it ripped away from you, and easily at that, is enough to break a man completely. Broski lived through the Eclipse and this makes it seem like a footnote.

Started my re-read back up, nearing the end of the Conviction Arc. Mozgus is actually terrifying my goodness

Every major side character post-eclipse is so well written it hurts.
Puck and Isidro despite mostly being there for comedic relief still have depth to them and make you really care for them as characters.
