As a nonpokemon fan while the game looks great this is an absolutely TERRIBLE reflection on how they've treated their long time consumers, with them taking part of the blame for buying and defending the low effort trash too. Thats what I call a toxic fan/dev relationship.

Not to fully defend Game Freak, but they’re not the sole owners.
There is GF, Nintendo, and Creatures Inc. who all have a piece in Pokémon Company.
And the issue is likely the ppl at each company on the business side of things, not the actual Devs.

Pokémon releases a game every single year in order to keep the money train going. They don’t want anything in toy line, trading cars, films, etc being delayed.

It’s likely not laziness or lack of competence. Pokémon games release so fast and frequently the devs can’t get much done. Plus Pokémon is more ambitious than most other JRPGs given its creature count; so in reality getting a game as polished as other JRPGs would be tougher task. Also likely tough to have the creative juices and passion for something you have to pump out yearly

This game is likely more of a passion project. And they likely had a much more comfortable time developing it since it like didn’t have as tight of a soul crushing deadline.

I love Elden Ring, but avoid a lot of Souls-y games because i don’t like spooky and/or grotesque looking creatures….

They have a few, but they never did well although they were all smaller scale besides one that was like mid level
