His worst attribute is being narcissistic which applies to literally every other character in the show, him having access to an incredible story & trying to milk it is the most benign action of any of the main characters on this show this season

I think the difference is that Gene's character just feels like a normal guy, he feels very human

The other characters are more grandiose and absurd, which is what people like them for. I don't think anyone is viewing them as good people or anything, but with Gene it feels like much more of a possibility for there to be better for him. When he fails to do those things I think it makes it easier for people to dislike his character because you see people like that irl.

You're unlikely to see psychos like barry or hank in your life, and I don't think as viewers anyone is expecting good things from them as people.

I don't know why you riding for Gene so hard tho, it's a tv show all these characters are s***heads for the most part, we still like them as characters lol
