Haven’t seen so many divisive reactions since Backrooms

    I’m hype now

Divisive horror is always a good time

Movie isn’t polarizing at all given audiences’ reactions.

It’s a horror movie though with comedic elements, it’s gonna hit for some and not for others by its very nature.

I thought they said they took out a lot of the comedy after the test screenings. 🧐

This isn’t divisive for taking major swings . If anything the swing at the end is part of what I like. It’s the humor and tonal mismatch / dialogue I have an issue with

That’s fine, I’m not expecting it to take swings like Backrooms . I’m just hoping for a good time

Comedy and horror often go together well imo so I’m really interested to watch

Humor was good. It was too much some times where it did take some of the tension away but that was on purpose. These games haven’t been designed to be scary in decades outside of re7. They are action games. The dialogue was fine. Yeah it was some campy stuff but that’s how the games are. Also the main character has to carry this movie alone for the most part. His external dialogue is what we have for large portions of the movie cause zombies don’t talk. I understand why they made it humorous

See, I don’t see it being a tonal mismatch at all. Cregger himself sited Evil Dead 2 as the film’s biggest inspiration and that’s there, the slapstick and goofy main character, the only thing this doesn’t have that that did is the one liners.

The character constantly mumbling to himself is also completely justified given the movie is 90% a one man show and this dude is literally scared s***less out of his mind.

  • Really enjoyed the first 3/4ths. I love a grounded, not over the top, zombie flick which is what it felt like.

Situations that make you and the main character mutter f*** f*** f***

Its not a terrible movie by any means though. It has good moments. Its still in many ways better than all other Resident Evil movies. Is it the best video game movie ? I would have to see a list but likely. But do I think want or need something to pass it in the next 5 years? Yes. Because I dont think it knocked it out of the park 98% level for me at all . I think reviews on this kind of high

Killing a child that bites him and the maternity ward were kind of all over for me. I dont feel it successfully landed the same tone as Evil Dead or the games for me. I get what it was going for but the jokes and humor felt like the things a drunk frat bro would say while playing the games on a stream. "Hey chat why are there so many padlocks in this game" . I like the concept of the ending but the execution of the ending something felt missing for me.

You can imagine how it was then, if this is actually true lmao

If they took out a lot of the comedy after test screenings them test screening people were in guantanamo

  • I think all three of his movies are 8/10s, but if I had to rank them I’d go:

    1. Weapons
    2. Resident Evil
    3. Barbarian

It’s probably outside the film’s budget, but it would’ve been cool if the ending was fleshed out by keeping Bryan’s POV as a BOW and have him act as a classic RE stalker enemy, jumping through vents, breaking through walls, killing the scientists one by one just a 5-6 minute sequence would make all the difference, but again, I could see it being outside the film’s budget.

Would be such a cathartic experience too after he spends the entire movie up until that point barely able to keep himself alive.

Not groundbreaking or anything, but had fun. Glad he didn't take a lot of time between Weapons and this.

"Too many jokes" shouldn't even apply to this film tbh. That gives the me impression that there are actual moments without jokes. The entire first 45 mins was literally nothing but jokes. Truly awful. Not a single redeeming quality.

  • I soy faced when he took off his shoes and it was a pair of 4's

    Epic chungus easter egg moment

The mutations being so similar was odd to me. In a way they went the Shadow of Colossus ending where the former protagonist becomes the final boss per se. I just feel like execution could have been better.

Vehemently disagree, this film is about the best merger of overt horror and humor I can think of in recent memory and feels very inline with his previous films, just heightened given the nature of the film.

It’s exactly what he said it would be. What if a guy who normally would just be playing Resident Evil as a video game was instead forced to live Resident Evil, recreating the experience of playing a Resident Evil game.

The film is essentially an earnest deconstruction of a Resident Evil playthrough being played by the most uncoordinated person you’ve ever seen.

walking in the snow by himself

"What am i doing out here running from crazy monster people, weird dogs..." 🤪

    walking in tunnel by himself

"No way I just did that, I did not just shoot a little girl's head off" 🤪

after shooting towards his car and seeing bullet holes in his hood while holding a gun

"What? Who the heck shot my car?" 🤪

after throwing the ladder at the dog then realizing he needs it to get back down

    "Omg the ladder! (facepalm)" 🤪

If they added in the Seinfeld music and a laughtrack every 20 seconds it would fit right in. Exactly what I was expecting from a Resident Evil movie. It is JUST like the games.

I get you loved the movie brother and I respect you loved the movie . My opinion is my own . I am not changing it because you loved every aspect of the movie. This is how I feel. I get that its meant to be a gamer in the real life scenario. I even love that it went that way instead of adapting the games. I dont like the execution. Because many of the lines he monlogues to himself you could add "hey chat " before and it would feel like a twitch stream of a bro. It took me out of it some. Regardless of my thoughts it worked for reviewers and many fans and that is dope. I wasnt going into this like " This needs to be an adaptation of any of the games ". that isnt my issue
