I think it's also a little bit of denial. He strung everybody for so long only to deliver one of the greatest disappointments of the 2010's with his Testimony album. I genuinely think people like op are experiencing some rare form of shock and this is their coping mechanism. He got washed by Kendrick Lamar AND Big Sean on the same track. How he fooled these people is anyone's guess.
I gotta give it to jay e, he built up quite the image of himself through the years. It didn’t come without some great songs but he definitely had an aura around him, deserved or not.
There’s a documentary on Netflix or hulu(I forgot) about a guy who got into the high wine industry and basically stole the labels off very expensive wine and re-attached them back onto cheap wine bottles and sold them at a huge profit. The people bought them cuz they trusted him and didn’t think to investigate. I feel like jay e’s career is like that.

He has more songs than AWT tho,
so this doesnt make sense and he had the best verse on control ( at least neck and neck with kendrick)

I've had this opinion for at least 9 years
exhibit C is f***ing great but that’s where this conversation ends. kid hood(rip) had the best verse on scenario remix but no one thinks he was a better rapper than q-tip, phife or busta
there’s a lot more to the conversation to quantify op’s claim than what jay E has done

cudi is not even close to jay elec youre just being a hater bud
kanye outsold
how you get outshone and overshadowed on your debut album that has been hyped for a decade plus
cudi is not even close to jay elec youre just being a hater bud
there’s a ton of kids out there that’ll say unashamedly that kid cudi’s music helped them fight their depression(not me as i’m not a huge cudi fan personally)
show me one person that’s ever said a jay E song helped them in that way
Look, I came in the game in the name of The Messenger
On the inside of my black trick bag I had a plethora
Electrified the pulse of the game at the core like Tesla
And penetrated every realm of society like Kissinger
Special Officer Flowers in the army of the lord
Commander of forgotten angels at home and abroad
As sure as the Motherplane is the Throne of Fard
I swear to go the stone and come home with the sword
It's globally known, I float on the track like the coast guard
Every pigeon I spit is like a train or a postcard
It's magic the way I created fame out of folklore
And got bigger than Tom Hanks when he was playing by the Zoltar
I'm shinin' my light with the passion of Christ, haters
The force has awakened, I'm brandishin' my lightsaber
Starin' in the mirror every mornin' as I pause
Carressin' the scars from the brawls and wars that this life gave us
I honestly thought this was an MF DOOM verse
