I didnt know you could lose at explorer mode. Maybe try custom mode

Bro keep trying. I thought the same thing I was getting wiped in Act one. And something just clicked.

Restricting enemies movements with frightened, grease, ice and webs really helps. Turn off karmatic dice. In fights it helps the enemies avoid constantly low rolls just like it helps you. Make them work to hit you. Take the high ground when you can and back off lead enemies into traps or rough terrain when possible.
