No, concepts are great but the point being made is a lot of the people who critique black art (which are mostly white people) think if your album doesn't have a concept or speak to some bigger societal cause/issue or isn't ''weird'' or ''different'' or basically anti-mainstream, then it isn't great or even good art.
That's the box they create and they leave out any black artist who isn't making s*** that fits into that box out of it and automatically regard their work as less than.
how is this even true when white people are some of the biggest fans of the artists that come without a concept album
Thug?
Keef?
White people love drill music?
I still remember how from like 2014 to like 2016, if you so much as had a bar about racism on your album, your album got a ton of critical acclaim and it isn't just in music. We can talk about movies and how the Oscars mostly give out awards to black movies that speak on racism or are about slavery/the struggle. It's the same concept.
so basically you're damned if you do and damned if you don't
i think the solution is to stop giving a s*** what white people like or not and just make what you want...
I don’t get this line of thinking though, he’s been doing concept projects since like 09
What I’m saying is Kendrick’s fanbase is putting him in a box where it seems like he has to drop a concept album or else it’s trash.
And mind you, Kendrick used to try to rap and make music like Wayne before he found his sound in 09.
these niggas are trolling nothing new
ANYWAYS
STREAM THE NEW DOJA

@KodakSpice @atthepyramids THEY’RE ALREADY MAD AND THE ALBUM IS NOWHERE CLOSE TO BEING OUT YET
Why is this gif so funny to me?
Something hilarious about folks calling the Black Israelite album the white friendly one
Kendrick’s lucky he’s not forced to constantly answer media questions like Kyrie. Them white folks would abandon him
Implying that black music fans don't get anything out of conceptual art like white music fans do is insulting af
What's the implication here honestly
Interesting comments regarding Kendrick. She's unbiased and isn't afraid of telling her truth. Wonder if more people feel that way but are just too afraid to say it.
interesting that you think this way about kendrick too

I said white because that’s the side of his fanbase that hypes his albums the most, not saying black people don’t enjoy it as well but we all know the type of critics that give Kendrick more critical acclaim than other rappers

Most music/movie critics are white. Most award bodies are led/fronted by white people. Most people who vote at the Oscars/Grammys are white. How is it so hard for people to understand?
