90%+ general audience rating on RT

    A on cinema score

A lower drop in box office from Friday to Saturday than what Endgame, NWH, and Top Gun Maverick saw. All the factors seem to indicate this movie will have legs

theaters just aren't as popular in general

  • Would be surprised if this movie hits 2 billion. Really liked it tho, my favorite blockbuster in years.

feel like this will have some crazy legs lowkey

seeing a lot of love for this movie on social media, way more than i was expecting.

don't think most people even knew the movie was out last weekend. i think there's a large untapped market that will be hit when those people see that good word of mouth

I know shrug I more mean legs wise that is towards the end of Avatar run anyway. Not many are like "I am seeing Avatar 2 2 months late over Ant Man". They aren't competition because many of the people will see both. Those that are die hard avatar 2 fans are seeing within first 2 weeks . So by that time it will already really be decided.

What are you even talking about?

I brought up Ant-Man because someone said Avatar will have a long run as the #1 movie at the box office because nothing major was releasing anytime soon. Ant-Man does come out soon, and will definitely be #1 for at least two weeks, that’s why I brought it up.

And that won’t be close to the end of Avatar 2’s run, the first movie had an original theatrical run of eight months. Avatar 2 will be in theaters until probably July 2023

As I said legs don’t last as long as they once did on movies when
    1. People know they come to streaming Blu-ray at faster rates
    2. Shootings and covid
    3. Movies aren’t what they used to be in that sense

I was more laughing at ant man because it’s the same company lol . Also black panther legs just slowed

Avatar 2.25 billi bet in these conditions was too high I’ve said that calm down shaleirose

You can’t compare a theatrical run in 2009 to a theatrical run in 2022 with a straight face

“ debating “ I clarified in two post after that it would already be decided by that point . Theatrical runs are different now especially when a sequel or any more of the avatar universe is 2 years away . I laughed at ant man because both are Disney and both different audiences to a degree

Might be less than avatar 1 second weekend if those lower projections hold lol.

BUT better than most MCU films with 60-70% drop. Really a normal drop tbh

Opening week domestically was worse than all marvel this year

World wide was better than all except doctor strange (just by a little bit)

Second week drop off is better for avatar.

There’s a lot stacked against its second weekend in domestic side, the winter storm affecting a decent chunk of the country and Christmas Eve (usually a slow day because of traveling/parties) landing on the Saturday are negatives, but if WOM takes effect it could capitalize on that and lead to a strong Sunday Christmas day. I’d say more realistic estimates are looking to be 60M-75M second weekend

Word of Mouth is currently boycotting it saying it goes against indigenous people, its overly long and "James cameron is too cocky"

Lol social media void usually aren’t even the target audience, it does have an A cinemascore and 91% posttrak on its side so audiences that will spread the word are on the positive side. Long runtime and premium formats being sold out are likely attributing to lower estimates. A lot of people have the mindset “if it’s not imax/Dolby, I’d rather not see it” because of how emphasized it was in marketing
