Advertising it as the final season was a f*** up no matter how you slice it. They did with about the story left to go, we're going into part 4 of the final season now.
I honestly like it, I’ve been blue balled by what I thought was the end 4 times
But I’d rather that than it actually end so

Instead of blue balls, they could've released season 4, then 5, then have the final season, or end on a movie.

They probably didnt expect, as stupid as it sounds, that production to be so bad. I remember the trailer having some paths scenes that we didnt get in part 1, so im sure they really thought they could've finished the whole thing in one season, also because it would've more or less coincided with the manga ending. Iirc calling it final season was a marketing decision they made back in 2019 at the time S3 part 2 was airing, around 20 chapters before the ending, so it may have been a mistake on kodansha and isayama's part as well

Did Isayama really think he was ending on Chapter 100?

I think its more like he didnt make clear he had more to write about and one season wouldnt have been enough. Hell, the pacing in the final parts of the story makes me think he could've gone for at least 5 more chapters but had to end with 139 for whatever reasons he had. I doubt the committee would've gone with final season if they knew beforehand what would have happened
Week and change left damn

Apparently isayama has worked on the rough drafts of this final episode. I wonder what that entails, but we'll see soon enough. I hope there arent substantial changes, not a fan of those 2 years after the original ending
