I think this might be a bad ending, like I'm trying to sit with this and it's like
Wow, how very Code Geass/21 Century Boys
Facts, been name-dropping Tenet/Xenoblade Chronicles/Code Geass since the thread pages in the 200s.
When they introduced the concept of time-travelling, back or forth I knew it was a wrap. Like 100%, this was gonna be manga of the life.

Knowing what we know now this just has me sitting here thinking why was THIS what needed to be done?

I feel like when time-loops are introduced into a story, it almost ALWAYS ends like this.
Not everybody is satisfied, but it usually ends in tragedy for the audience, because we understand the dramatic irony (what ACTUALLY happened, even if unbeknownst to the MCs).
This was almost like Nolan made a manga tbh.

gonna be real interesting to see what the reception to this chapter is in 6 months, or after the anime finishes. im with u in disliking the chapter, and ive seen on twitter the copium wearing off for some people, but i can still kinda see why people would like it
now i gotta read 20th century boys though

Isn’t 20th century boys really f***ing sad? Or so from what I’ve heard? Like even worse than AOT?

yeah might go see what it is.
I mean end of the day you cant ignore the POV of your main character for that long and expect positive reception of the ending :sasmh: cant believe we got offbrand Code Geass

It's basically a derivative of the "Thanos Problem" for: Like why was your solution "kill half of all life" when that same power could have alternatively create more resources?

except he was trying to kill all of life wasn't he? Or did he knew he was going to be stopped at 80%
I mean the ending was planned for the longest time as it seems. So maybe code geass was the influence?
Also everyone should spoiler the show ending influences above
I really like the ending even when some points are missing or unclear, but the anime can adress this

Well the manga began being written in 2009 and the CG anime finished airing in Japan in late 2008 so if it was an influence then it would've been fresh in Isayama's mind.
And yes he knew that they would stop him at 80% but he still NEEDED them to be the ones to stop him.
Eren really began reminding me of the abrahamic prophets of old the more the story went on.
He wasn’t his own person anymore, simply an instrument for a larger cause in Ymir
Imagine the pain & sadness that revelation caused him. A boy, tasked with a noble but heavenly task.
He had to weasel some of the power bestowed upon him to tie up loose ends with his lover and friend. That’s why Ymir was smiling, because she felt sympathy for Eren. He was just a kid, like her.
Wasn't she happy for Mikasa more than anything, that she could act against her love for Eren for the greater good

yeah so I don't get the complaint that the rumbling was pointless not being finished, because it was never meant to be finished. He saw everything folding out, and he was just doing his job to get there. Literally time loop structure, unless everyone decided to hate time loops when the ending doesn't fit their desires

BINGO. If it's not your preference that's one thing and you're entitled to your opinion. But the ending still fits and makes sense with the way the story was set up lmao

I'm being way more general in my critique, why did people have to die period?

But Code Geass ending amazing tho
Grisha fathered Eren out of love, that's what the whole paths thing was about
and then he forced the attack titan onto him, thus eren inherits his father's conflict
But Code Geass ending amazing tho
They payoff is different though. In that show everyone got along together kumbawa before resurrection. Plus the dynamic of "good vs evil" was more cut and clear vs AoT.
I know I cried to Code Geass for how amazing it was, so maybe it's only a few shows that can set itself up to end like that?
