a key thing to remember is that television and film are very different mediums. television is hyper commercial, advertising and business focused...its never really been about the art. the "golden age of tv" is a historical anomaly despite the great shows that have come out in the last 20 years.

meanwhile movies are much more of a legit artform...the people that create movies obviously want to make money, but they do it for the art much more, it doesn't have the same commercial obligations as television.

this guy zaslav is a tv executive and will never understand that in the same way that like...even amy pascal does. its a real shame how the film industry is operating more and more like television, traditionally a cynical and creatively bankrupt industry. its killing the magic of the movies man

Very interesting that they are leaning a lot more towards "unscripted" programming.

Maybe in an era where there is so much content on so many platforms consumers are choosing reality tv as an easier more consumable "escape"

the film s*** is so bleak but I feel like its gonna cave in on itself when audiences want stuff with more nuance and isn't so formulaic

I'm sure its cheaper and if you look up the "max original" lineup a lot of that stuff is trash and not attracting viewers.

Max original is not to be confused with HBO original (hard knocks, sopranos, silicon valley etc)

We are never ever getting quality content funded man.

If it doesnt tick some exec boxes it wont get funded

Somebody give Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould a blank check before it all falls down

Tbh this is kind of a genius move

Not only are you cutting costs but you're now pulling in multiple demographics onto one platform. Opening up the possibility for viewers to be exposed to new content they otherwise would not find without subscribing to another service.

This is what netflix should have done years ago but instead they chose to double down and churn out niche content to try to basically do the same thing Warner is doing rn
