People somehow thinking that this means the far right will control the media for the next century when in reality this will mostly just be a pretty normal three years where not much will change, then when this administration is out of power and Paramount is continuing to hemorrhage money, they’ll sell to Netflix and the death of cinema can really begin.

This is a very cute idea that would make sense on paper. Our economy rewards other things than profits. Shareholder value is whatever someone will pay for it. It's what you cash out at. That's if you don't just drown the company in debt and part it out like corporate raiders started doing in the 80s and 90s.

You can own a terrible baseball franchise with dogshit attendance for 20 years that never wins and sell it for 5x what you paid for it. It's a scarce, prestige asset. The Ellison family didn't accrue their wealth in the media industry. They are using their wealth to accrue the media industry.

And again, we have a very prescient example to look at in CBS coverage and Tik Tok moderation/TOS.
