Thinking that the preservation of cinema as an artform is not serious is exactly the problem

It’s not the end of the world . It likely won’t pass so Netflix sending out emails and doing press releases like it’s done is wild . No matter what long term as in next 20-50 years preservation will become an issue even if wb is not bought by Netflix . Acting as if Netflix is the only one with lack of preservation issues or binary of good and evil is silly . There are many potential problems with streaming models and having so many streamers

What is this paramount news? Is the deal with Netflix not finalized yet?

It won't be final until WBD splits their company in Q3 2026

But until then Netflix has entered exclusive negotiations. However, Paramount has indicated they might go for a hostile takeover

There is also the regulatory hurdles where there is bipartisan support to kill this deal

No there isn’t. Thousands upon thousands of jobs are on the line if this goes the way people think it will

It going away isn’t all down to wb selling or not it’s many things in film or art in general going the direction of streaming and CEOs

They very obviously are acting like it's a done deal to warm people up to it by the time it's finalized. The public and industry reaction was pretty much unanimously negative so they will continue to work overtime to normalize it before it goes final next year

If you are following the news the chances of this going final are more than unlikely

You know what’s going to kill thousands upon thousands of jobs ? Ai and continued corporate greed by CEOs who don’t even appreciate art just money

Theaters aren’t shutting down and this deal isn’t clearing

Now, just 2 days after the announcement, sure. We're talking about a DOJ and a president that are incredibly corrupt and can be swayed on a dime, there's no telling what Netflix can pull in the coming months to get the support they need from the government
