Central problem is direct support lol . I buy a movie digitally if I really want it . 99% of the movies I see on streaming I never cared enough to see in theaters . Those I want to see in theaters I see day 1or close to it to be able to discuss with others

The problem is not supporting artist not some hierarchy of whether you are seeing in theaters or not solely . Streaming being focused on just extracting the most possible money from the consumer but not making it to the artist and making it to CEOs.

Even if you took all streaming down pirating would still exist . Sharing a movie or physical would still exist . The past model doesn’t make greedy people enough

When we were growing up no one got out of a movie like “ let me go on aol to discuss the box office and rate it on letterboxd” it was an intimate experience would discuss at school , work water cooler moments

The issue is often isolation and less connection . People not paying attention to content or paying attention to just enough to extract memes

I mean a lot of this could be solved if in the end of the year they rereleased the top films of the year or Oscar nominees or each quarter . There is no reason there should be times where we say “ there is nothing out “ vs rereleasing something someone possibly didn’t get to see in theaters because they were too young or working

i used to watch podcasts n s*** on a work computer and when i was really young id probably watch a movie but tbh i think what needs to be brought back in general, and what the theatrical experience kinda provides built in, is the immersion into the film. even when watching things at home, we should try and curate an immersive experience for ourselves. if you're gonna argue it as an alternative to the cinema, we are not in a good place with our attention when we are watching s*** at home. i hear so many stories of peiople (and see it on planes) of people just fastforwarding through movies, fastforwarding through 30 minute chunks. all of this has been an evolution of the binge culture.
