Don’t fool yourselves. Netflix is only doing these limited theatrical releases so they qualify for awards not because they care about the theater model or care to get into it

I don’t understand why they have to be so anti-theater when they don’t even realize they can potentially make the most amount of money if they focus on both since they basically have the film & TV world in a chokehold now.

Release their movies in theaters with a theatrical window of 45 days MINIMUM, and then release it on Netflix no sooner than 7-8 months later. Will there still be some people that wait for the streaming release? Sure, but majority of people will go see it in a theater if it’s a movie they’re interested in seeing.

And then on the television side, spam as much prestige TV shows with the best talent available as you want since you now have both your in-house stuff and HBO, all of those will be more than enough to keep people streaming year-round.

They can literally make as much money as possible if they focus on both avenues instead of abandoning the theater model altogether

Without theaters they can gain more subscribers and with more assets they can continue increasing subscription prices with little competition. A steady source of income while mitigating the risk of taking chances movies in theaters

But subscriber count has a hard cap. It’s not like they can just infinitely grow that number, it’s impossible.

And even if you wanna play that card, which is valid, their chokehold they now have on the television market would be more than enough to create monthly subscriber growth. Especially because TV as a format is recurring, unlike film

You can’t raise the price too much or else people will stop subscribing. Plenty of people have unsubscribed from Netflix in recent years because of rising prices
