I think Robert Christgau gave Soulja Boy's first album an A grade when he was in his 60s.That's what I wanna be like when I'm old

I hate his reviews because there only like four sentences Max, but he has incredible taste, especially for someone known as “dean Of rock music”

  • I feel like I can't outgrow it( or, I can't see myself outgrowing it) simply because I don't invest much into it emotionally or anything like that, once I stopped doing that, the music got better for me.

i didn't mind the song, but to me it just felt like another really short shelf-life song and it really has not much replay value

yeah fr. didnt hate that track but thought it was a mediocre ass comeback

yea i used to be on here to discover new artists but it seems like the user base either got younger or music just got worse / oversaturated..

funny thing is in every other music section on ktt1 like rock and indie everyone would get along and there was great discussion.. the rap s*** is just memes or mid music

    Rt this is fax

but I think that infests and poisons the rest of the catalog of good s*** out. There's still good up n coming artist people like MIKE but you gotta weed out the bad eggs.

Good art will stand the test of time it always does. S*** that reflects a point in time will wither away and be forgotten

this is true.. do you have any conscious dudes you could put me on? like ishdarr or the other guy i posted in op..?

if i never listen to another rap song made after 2019 again

theres still so much good rap music from years past

ur not outgrowing rap music, people of all ages just make rap music now like they're permanently 18 and rap about carnal s*** thats only really cool or exceptional when ur younger. no introspection/reflection/analysis beyond surface level

the nature of trap beats being the dominant production style also contributes to this

Its not even cool niggas just feed into it because its being promoted and plastered on IG

    but ya rt

I think I'll never outgrow rap as a whole but I definitely outgrew the mainstream at some point. It's so one-dimensional, it f***ing hurts and those a******s are so obviously just in for the money, it's just a f***ing business at this point. I think the moment I really stopped giving a f*** about the largest part of new mainstream/hype albums was the point when people like Pump, Xan, Yachty blew up and when the majority of artists who have been good in the past stopped sounding original or giving a f***. I feel like very few artists even care about their legacy at this point. They are just looking for that hit single to blow up so they can get money and b****es This genre is the new pop and it has literally become the holy grail for youngins without any real passion for the music.

real bro. i have to agree.

it was around 2017 when mainstream rap felt too "youthful" for me.. and like i mean if dudes were young then it was probably a great time but it just felt like i couldnt relate to alot of that music.. i was like 23/24 and just hearing the lyrics to those songs made me cringe

Correct me if I'm wrong but I do feel like ringtone rap was getting a lot more backlash.. there were artists like Nas and Cudi involved, s***ting on it and mourning over the state of hip hop, opting for change..

In 2010-11 Kanye started implementing more boom bap influence and Drake followed suit in 2013, Kendrick and Cole also blew up all the way to stardom..

Now it's just cornballs like past prime Eminem and Logic s***ting on "mumble rap" so it turned out that if you complain about the state of mainstream rap, people will group you with them by default and just brush you off as a lame. It kinda bothers me sometimes but then again I just listen to what I like..

Yeah, I didn't expect feeling "too old" for mainstream rap that early back in 2013-2016
