Mac went on like a 3 year run where he couldnt miss
Yeah and that’s not even considering the production/features he did for other artists
Real genius
Already mentioned them in OP but this run is insane
Speakerboxxx / The Love Below could arguably be considered 2 projects
Them and Tribe are on the level of the beatles and i say it w full respect to the beatles
3 is the only BH album i'd return to
and i was admittedly a really big fan of those guys during them days too
Faces and Swimming are classics in my book for sure
But I also love every Mac project after BSP so maybe I’m biased.
Oh I love mac man I consider all of those classics
Swimming was an AMAZING album that did not deserve to get slept on because of Travis.
Some of his best songwriting is on that album. He had an amazing trajectory ahead of him with Swimming & Circles.
They got the Chance treatment
and unlike Chance it wasn't even bc their music truly fell off
it was backlash for them letting go of Ameer
I remember everyone hating Relapse on release TBH and I say this as a previous big Em fan
Yeah people HATED the accent he was doing
It’s fascinating to look back on it and the sales it was doing but once you quickly realize that this album had the hype riding on the biggest rapper of all time finally making his comeback, you really start to understand why it wasn’t as big as it should’ve been.

Duh
They all innovators of their respective genres
I remember everyone hating Relapse on release TBH and I say this as a previous big Em fan
Thats one of the first albums I bought on release day
Loved it to death and that s*** used to drive my dad crazy bc he hates Eminem

I don’t even know if it was truly that
People just stopped thinking they were cool

F*** The Beatles Now & Then out now
I don’t even know if it was truly that
People just stopped thinking they were cool
They had like a cocktail of bad things happen
They also had 2 different types of fans and ended up isolating both trying to please both

Yeah it's super polarizing lol
I think Tyler shifted perspective on that album alot tbh
There's way too much things going in your first message @op s*** looks like an art exhibition

This was a huge issue too

I love cool photos tbh
Yeah but the Em accent was nauseating
I feel like it’s not THAT bad
There are some tracks where it’s a little too much but there’s also songs like Hello and Same Song And Dance where it’s pretty subdued. He didn’t even do the accent on a few tracks like Insane, Beautiful and Underground.

Like just as an example, Justin Timberlake made a really f***in good album in the 20/20 experience (even though most would still say FSLS is his best) and he had his most successful run as a solo artist ever. For a super hyped artist taking a break and making a comeback, the only way you don’t have your biggest commercial breakthrough is if the music was just absolute gutter
