When it comes to music, at every turn Gambino has almost "sabotaged" himself since...honestly post STN MTN/Kauai. I say "sabotage" because he actively made decisions to not make music videos for his popular songs or promo them.

Like there were no music videos made for Me & Your Mama, Redbone, Terrified, or Riot despite those songs being bangers and major crowd pleasers when performed live off Awaken My Love.

Guava Island was seen as a fun lil movie and he never put out the soundtrack for it despite it having songs people loved on it like Die With You and of course Saturday. There were also very popular songs in the leak community such as Love Bug and Nightlight that never saw the light of day. Summertime Magic is the only track that made it off Guava Island. As cool as that track is, can imagine how well an album or EP with Saturday, Summertime Magic, Love Bug, Nightlife, and Die With You would've gone over with people?

He finally decides to drop a single and music video and it's for This Is America. I don't care to get into the discussion of whether the song is good or not without the music video I really don't give a f***. But the reality is, the song/video was a moment that he didn't take advantage of at all. Sure it got Grammy noms and awards, was a No. 1 Billboard song, and is 3x platinum but that was it. No project or anything following it. Unless you wanna consider it apart of Guava Island, but again...wasn't no soundtrack or EP released for it.

Then there's 3.15.20...there was actually some build up for this project. A countdown, potential album artwork, I guess you can consider Feels Like Summer as a single for the album. The Pharos shows, his Coachella performance, the This Is America tour, Guava Island, all this seemed like the build up for this project...all this from 2017-2019...and nothing. Pandemic hits, he drops a lil sketch of potential album artwork, then drops the album randomly with no album artwork, no track titles, and many songs that people thought were finally going to be released like: Warlords, Human Sacrifice, Die With You, Saturday, Love Bug, Nightlight, etc are nowhere to be found on the album. And once again, no music videos, no promotion, s*** not even acknowledgement from Gambino himself. And it's a damn shame because 3.15.20 is actually a great f***in album even with fan favorite tracks missing from it

There was a point when Gambino really could've taken over after the success of Awaken My Life, Atlanta, all his touring and film appearances. But he intentionally chose to scrap a lot of s***. Now could that have been because a lot of things with him changed with his father passing, becoming a dad, him diving more into television and film, and the pandemic? I don't doubt it. But it's crazy man...never seen an artist throw away being a global music superstar like him when he had it in the palm of his hands.

I'm sure if he were to announce an album in the near feature, do a regular album rollout with videos, interviews, media runs, a tour, etc it'd perform very well and like he hasn't skipped a beat with this music s*** making his inclusion in OP's post even dumber. But I just highly doubt he's gonna do that.

10000000% agree with this and i’m still annoyed about the 3.15.20 thing. Album is heat but he did not acknowledge at all lol

Rocky is scared to drop his new album. The songs he’s released aren’t moving the needle. Also artists he’s influenced like Travis Scott, Playboi Carti and Yeat have taken his spot in rap culture and are making more relevant moves.

Meek Mill same thing as Rocky. He’s not relevant musically anymore. His last album was a flop for him. Future, Durk and Baby have outflanked him on the mainstream level as important street artists. Other street artists like Key Glock and Veeze are creating new waves. They’ve all taken Meek’s spot in the game.

Childish Gambino as well. He’s almost 40 and he hasn’t released an album in almost 4 years now. Artists like Tyler, The Creator and Steve Lacy are still pushing boundaries and impacting culture while he’s gone silent. His last album was underrated to me but it came and went.

It's just insane...bruh had a whole f***in Ariana Grande feature on Time and did NOTHING with it

But even that aside, the album still had these tracks on it:

All solid tracks but he treats them like they don't even exist and it's damn shame. Why Go to the Party/39.28 was supposed to be the intro to Human Sacrifice...but that was scraped and now Human Sacrifice is nothing more than a song used for a Google Pixel ad

This nigga had a crowd of cacs moshing to some African tribal music at Coachcella with 32.22, which was supposed to be an intro/lead into Warlords with Kid Cudi. But that song was scrapped and we just left with scare the ho music randomly placed on the album and it doesn't fit at all because it's immediately followed by Little Foot, Big Foot/35.31...which in my opinion is a fun ass song but yeah man. What the f***!?

it’s utterly baffling but not at the same time. i feel like Bino doesn’t really f*** w fame like that. he’s already won most of the prestigious awards, he has hella clout within the industry, a devoted fanbase, and enough money to never work again. maybe he’s content with that and raising his kids instead of constantly trying to maintain the status of being a global superstar

i’m surprised he’s even still in the industry at all tbh bc i remember reading interviews of his around his peak (2017-18) and feeling like he was gonna pull a Andre 3000 and just say f*** it entirely. instead, he seems to have his foot in and out the business at the same time
