This has basically been one of the biggest music industry things the past years and the average music fan doesn't really know much about it so why not put together a list of popular artists who own their masters (and to which releases).
Let me know which artists to add.
Jay-Z: Reasonable Doubt, In My Lifetime, Hard Knock Life, The Dynasty, Unplugged, Blueprint 2, The Black Album, every release since 2007
Kanye: every release since 2016
Drake: every release since 2019
Kendrick: every release since 2022, although his pre-2022 releases are owned by Top Dawg which he is a "minority shareholder" in meaning he owns them partially.
J. Cole: every release
Frank: every release since 2016
The Weeknd: every release
Beyonce: every release since 2016
Rihanna: every release since 2016
21 Savage: every release
Taylor Swift: every release since 2019
Metro Boomin: every release
Adele: every release since 2021
Eminem: every release since 2017
YoungBoy: every release
Nas: every released since 2018
T.I.: every release since 2003
Artists that don't own any masters of their work currently: Lil Baby, Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Future, Lil Uzi, Post Malone, Doja Cat, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Lil Wayne, Rod Wave, Lil Durk
I doubt The Weeknd owns s***, he’s been manipulated by Martin and the corporates since the very beginning
Important to note that most of the “classic” and pinnacle albums of the artists listed here are owned by a major/that the machine is what creates the atmosphere for a classic album/the classic albums we know (rollouts, how much it costs to actually make an album, iconic music videos, etc.)
And without that machine we really don’t see Blueprint, Take Care, College Dropout, etc level albums

The Weeknd was the smartest one out of everyone, and that's exactly why he didn't sign to OVO
