Ye stans are jokes. The man already has the most 10/10s of any rapper and y'all want to go discredit it all by saying some ridiculous s*** like he has 7.
He's got 4-5, which should be enough because it's already more than anyone else.
He's one of the most acclaimed of all time and they still perceive them as some sort of underdog lol
lowkey none unless you're counting post-punk or proto-punk, which i tend not to really
Husker Du the closest for me. think a lot of punk fans would say Ramones, Clash, Dead Kennedys
Yea that’s why I asked the question. Very influential and interesting genre but I think all the classics came afterwards during the post punk and new wave era. If I had to choose those I’ll say the clash and dead Kennedy’s and stooges. Husker Du great pick as well
JAY Z
4:44/BP1 are the 10/10s
but he has way more classics
hot take but i agree
it’s great but i feel like it doesn’t get going until self control, and then the interludes kinda stop it from being perfect
there’s no way frank was working with vegyn and asap rocky without having listened to dean blunt’s work. i believe his work isn’t as grand, hut
touches on a lot of these topics to a greater effect. i just have a personal preference for minamalism
the way the album is structured reminds me a lot of black metal. pretty sweet being this super experimental track that starts off as a p much a noise track, feels sm like the climax of black metal. the shift between lighter meandering tracks into the darker heavier stuff.
imo the execution of this structure is done better in black metal. controversial i know, but black metal just speaks so much more to me than blonde.
i kinda always felt unfulfilled whenever i did a front to back listen to blonde which i talk about later here. black metal just felt like everything i wanted to feel with blonde. this is all just imo, i know ppl won’t feel the same way at all. but with the collaborators both artists work with, the themes they explore, and their love for experimenting / pushing boundaries i can’t NOT compare these two great artists.
another issue i have is with the interludes and how they frame the narrative of this record.
frank’s always done interludes but this album has the weakest feeling ones imo. idk they just don’t feel cinematic the same way “songs about women” or the playstation start up sounds on CO did for me. i like the backing track used but it gets kinda repetitive especially when you’ve listened to this album so much lol.
the are are so hit and miss for me. good guy is perfect. be yourself is cute, and facebook story is just a horrendous sore spot. pretty sweet to close to you is perfect. i don’t get why it has to be broken up by this story.
you can say just skip it, but these moments are important for a frank album. and honestly he’s done these short little moments better in his career.
nikes is a great introduction don’t have issues with it but futura free is just... disappointing. doesn’t live up to what is being set up by white ferrari / seigfried / godspeed imo. i like the lyrics but just kinda doesn’t give me the emotional release i’m expecting from those last three songs. feels like a s***ty endless song.
if blonde was a movie i’d say it has a great introduction scene, but doesn’t really get going until the climax. ending kinda falls flat. but overall a great movie with a great story. i’m just not giving it my full attention the entire time.
by any and all means it’s one of the best records of last decade, and will probably be remembered as THE album of the decade, only next to MBDTF. it’s genre bending without even caring. it’s got great songs, some decent songs, but comes together to tell a great coming of age story. it resonates with so many in my generation, but i don’t think it personally resonates as much as it does my peers.
i think blonde has some of the highest highs of any record i listened to since i started getting serious about music. but i don’t think it’s the perfect end all be all record everyone makes it out to seem.
i also feel like the beauty of frank’s storytelling is it’s vagueness, and that anyone can place themselves into these stories. this record does that very well, but i still kinda miss the more direct stories like most, novacane, forrest gump.
but i get that’s what the album is going for, less fully developed stories and more so vignettes fleeting moments. i think it’s well done but other artists are attempting to capture this “life through instagram stories” thing with the same creative energy as frank.
by any and all means i find this record fantastic but i just don’t think it’s this monumental larger than life record that some people
make it seem
yeah i agree with some of this. I think its a truly great album, but a lot of people these days seem to be elevating it to the status of one of the greatest albums of all time which it wouldnt come anywhere near for me. so id have to say its a bit overrated imo.
along with maybe MBDTF I'd say it's probably the most common favorite album OAT of users on ktt2
hot take but i agree
not saying those are the only classics l’d say he has like 4 or 5 but in terms of 10/10 those are the ones

Ye has 4-5 perfect albums?
Surprised they haven't been mentioned yet but....Roxy Music.
Which albums you think are 10s?
Yea that’s why I asked the question. Very influential and interesting genre but I think all the classics came afterwards during the post punk and new wave era. If I had to choose those I’ll say the clash and dead Kennedy’s and stooges. Husker Du great pick as well
if you're including EPs there might be some other choices like Minor Threat i guess
yeah you definitely started listening to rap in 2015
actually when i started listening to other genres. For 15 years prior to that only rap so
Ye has 4-5 perfect albums?
The College Dropout
Late Reg
Grad
808s
MBDTF
How are these not perfect
a very spicy take but graduation is yes best album
It definitely has some of the best songs he‘s ever dropped
his lyrics are way weaker than they are on any album before that one
i dsagree completely
“ first the fat boys break up now every day I wake up somebody’s got a problem with hov” is one of the most smooth lines Jay has ever spat
SONG CRY might be top 5 for him
Surprised they haven't been mentioned yet but....Roxy Music.
none of their albums reach masterpiece status for me. first 2 albums are the best imo, debut probably #1
never liked Avalon as much as a lot of people do
