All the great artists develop, grow and are in a constant everflowing state of evolving. I love sweetener, however she isn't in her mid twenties anymore and things and time have change and would be dissapointed in regressing to previous sounds and leaning into a legacy artist type of gig.

ariana’s newer vocal approach is really interesting because she’s using harmonies less like traditional background vocals and more like rhythmic instrumentation. there are all these tiny vocal accents and syncopated harmony stacks sprinkled throughout the mix that move independently from the lead melody. if you solo the vocals, the harmonies are basically carrying the chords, groove, and emotional texture of the song on their own. very beyoncé inspired imo, especially the way beyoncé’s music since around 2020 treats stacked vocals almost like the actual arrangement instead of just support for the lead.
