one of the worst writers i’ve ever witnessed tbh
and at this point his entire aesthetic and craft feels like cosplay, nothing feels like it has any heart. so cold, sterile and stiff
i’m hardly a hater but it’s very rare that movies feel as off to me as this and beau is afraid did
You’re not wrong but I thought that was part of the appeal of this guys work
Keep seeing the hype for this. Worth watching in theaters? Haven’t seen a single Ari Aster film
This and hereditary are his only films worth watching
Inserting George Floyd’s photo and imagery into this otherwise mostly unserious and fictional story was unnecessary as f***. If Ari’s perspective of the protests lands him with that sort of messaging he feels is important then so be it, but man that didn’t work for me at all.
I was genuinely shocked he did it
Yeah with how much fun I had watching this and Beau , as much as I find Hereditary a classic I’d be so fine if he was done with horror
Seriously I was thinking the same thing, even if he left the surrealism alone for just a few movies I'd be ok with it. This dude knows how to tell a compelling story based in reality, the 2nd half of this movie is some of the best filmmaking of the decade. Never knew where it was going.
If Beau was his take on Kaufman, then it’s safe to say this was his take on Altman. This structure of this movie reminded me of Short Cuts the way it’s almost like a few different movies going on at once but they cross paths with each other.
the more I think about this movie the higher it is on my top 10 list
of the year?

I will say... at this point, one way I'd like him to challenge himself would be to write a movie that isn't cruel to its characters or has some hope perhaps
was extremely neutral after watching it but i feel like i like it more and more the more i think about it
yessir!
For me, this film has absolutely no competition so far this year, but I tend to glaze a lot of the divisive big swings I see. Just tryin to figure out if it's gonna land on my top 10 of the 2020s.

I would not start here but worth seeing
I could not wait for ts to end and had a miserable time
cant stop thinking about it and will be going again

this is lowkey the whole vibe of the movie

let me know when you cook up that 2020s list

Not watching Florence Pugh
He’s mentioned the possibility of an Eddington sequel in a couple interviews and I’m f***in praying he doesn’t follow through on that
Saw this last night and feel like I need to rewatch to catch everything. Haven’t stopped thinking about it.
Didn’t work for me at all. Left me continually saying, “okay?? And??”… extremely shallow and surface level. Love Asters previous work, and appreciate and respect a big swing. But it didn’t land for me.
This was my exact thoughts throughout most of the movie
That’s Aster’s first miss for me. I don’t know if I missed something but it was just very on the nose satire imo
it was bloody genius what do you want me to say
You gotta explain what was “genius” about this
Spoilers:
They were a paramilitary group hired to pretend to be Antifa in order to further sow division. When Joe picks up the dead "Antifa" guys phone after the explosion, he sees the same video from Portland that he watched earlier in the movie. Since Garcia was dead, and he was pushing through the plans to build the data center there, they needed to make sure the next mayor signed off on it as well. Joe was against it. The plane they were in had solidgolfmagikarp's logo on it. The gist is that big Tech is orchestrating everything in order to keep Americans polarized.
