With Kendrick at the forefront & the Clipse not too far behind as the current heavyweights of rap is this causing a shift in the industry that’s taking eyes of other style of rap & putting more focus on artists such as Freddie Gibbs, JID, StoveGodCooks, Joey Badass, Westside Gunn, Boldy James etc. instead?
None of those people really sell well unless that’s what you mean? Rap to leave the mainstream and refocus on lyricism?
Industry would never touch/develop quality MC’s anymore because both sides are smart/aware enough to understand that they’d f*** up each others money
Really enjoying Star Line because there are actually messages in the song. I’m an old head now

yea the latter cos it’s not like any rap superstar is about to emerge anytime soon esp on the level of the big 3 blog era. there’s so many sub genres nowadays most ppl just stick to their lil bubbles anyways.
If ur a smart and sober rapper you know you’d make good money going the indie route considering just how healthy the scene is
If you’re a smart and sober industry executive you know you’d make a much bigger killing off a clout chasing one-hit wonder you can pump full of d**** and throw contracts at while he makes TikTok music vs someone with business acumen, self interest, meticulous creative processes, and a distrust for ur business model

Has there been a cycle where there wasn’t a dominant big 3?
Everyone knows Kanye is a top 5 rapper in 2025 🔥

tbh i couldn’t even tell ya and anyone with mega superstar potential from my generation pretty much died or don’t release music (carti) or fell off (uzi)
People want good albums again regardless of what the charts say
We’ve had some really good music lately, but people who die by billboard would say otherwise because they only listen to bloated stream slop

Sounds like we’re going back to the 90s
