Reading is important but I think we focus too much on it to combat capitalism, better than reading a book or watching a lecture to procrastinate through learning is to go outside and talk to people and make friends

Solidarity, mutual aid and collective improvement are all great values that only actually matter once you meet and care about other people, the problem is not just the phones it's that the over reliance on phones is a symptom of a lonely disconnected society with great technological advances

Capitalism is wired to absorb critique (shoutout Mark Fisher) so it's a hard balance to find between critique and knowing that actions speak louder than words, being wrapped up in academia is alienating to people that don't care for academia that can nevertheless get involved and experience the positive benefits of community integration :)

read lenin instead of mark fisher

I don't read either anymore, it does nothing positive for my life and doesn't motivate me in any meaningful way

I know what I need to know, that doesn't mean I know everything but I know what matters

Shouldn't have pursued marketing where I'm basically required to be chronically online 24/7

i've been rocking a dumb phone since december. I can live without the social media apps, my biggest issue is YT.

I got rid of instagram, and to me that's helped the most. I got rid of FB for a month, but back on there (for the time being) I find it really difficult man, even though i'm doing more sh*t irl over the past month, or so. I don't watch tv anymore. I just use YT and blu-rays for my entertainment fix. I got in the habit of bringing a book with me to coffee shops and it's lit ngl.

Nah i feel like all that definitely helps recalibrate your brain. The one thing that gives me hope is that in NY, students cant use their phones anymore and within a month teachers said they noticed their kids having more hobbies and s*** I do think if society wants to change behavior regarding to our social media fixations it is entirely doable.
