Was thinking of getting a 17E 256GB new but I think I'm gonna get a refurb 16PM in Natural Titanium 512GB tomorrow (~$600 outright)
Can anyone think of any valid reasons for me to get a 17 or 17E over a 16PM?
(This will be my side phone, main phone is a Samsung Ultra)
I mean yeah if you're not going with the 17 Pro, the 16 PM will do just as fine if not better than the base 17
This look a little over scaled for 13inch in this pic or I'm bugging

what a time
what kind of bizzaro timeline are we living in where macs are better value than PCs lmao

since 2020 bro
besides the 8gb ram, this is a perfect laptop for students
can't see why schools wouldn't buy these macbooks over chromebooks unless they have some sort of partnership that bundles the hardward and software

It is stupid value
But even the Mac apologists gotta admit than 8GB ain't cutting it no mo
Even the original M1 Macbooks were overusing their SSDs due to constantly running out of RAM
But as a value prop, the overall package is insane
Especially with the student discount
12GB RAM would've made this perfect perhaps

I just need someone to validate my desire to be Two Phone Jones
Might order the 16PM tonight

I do wish there was a 12GB RAM upgrade option for like $50, but the value proposition would still start to slip away at a higher price. The A19 Pro does have 12GB RAM so I'd imagine the 2027 Neo generation should get 12GB standard

Indeed, I was extremely hyped until I read 8 GB RAM with no option to upgrade that, the big drawback for me
I like the XDR actually, I'll probably get one eventually
I just wish they didn't upcharge so much and do planned obsolescence. That $1600 Studio Display has the same exact panel as a $300 iMac from 2015
When you put it that way
that iMac did have an advanced panel for its time and there aren't a bunch of 5K 27" displays today to compare it to, but yeah it does seem like a lot especially given the 60Hz. It's nice to have the one-cable setup with power delivery, built in mics and speakers and everything, but definitely still a pricey monitor. I'd looooove to get the new XDR but I'm not sure I'm at my desk at home enough to warrant it -- all my content consumption is done at my OLED / surround sound system in the living room

my highschool had a macbook cart and a chromebook cart.
those chromebooks were ass
you dont mean college students
cause depending on ur major u need a somewhat capable laptop. like if you're coding or graphic design or anything creative really. the neo wont be the best option
Wish they had a teal/green/blue Neo. Those blush ones might be the prettiest MacBooks ever
$600 macbook is f***ing awesome
I'm still rocking my m1 8gb ram with no issues
It's ridiculous that they don't have higher ram options though

yeah wouldn't expect colleges to supply laptops
mostly highschool and under since they usually have google accounts for school

It's not if you think about why it's that way... it's a leftover iPhone chip. They would've had to develop a new variant of that SoC just for this, adding development cost. I'm sure it'll get the A19 Pro next year, which has 12GB RAM by default
