Think it's worth noting that, particularly in America, government response to a public health emergency has been so pathetic across two administrations that we've effectively passed down enforcement of public safety measures to the individual, which... obviously isn't going well.

This coming from a believer in centralized government power in theory. We've somehow ended up at the worst of both worlds and frankly it's f***ing exhausting. I think I've already lost enough of my life to this dumbass pandemic to waste even more of it convincing people to use (free!) modern medicine to end it.

due to a botched rollout and lack of vaccine supplies most australians didn't have access to the vaccine until after june

We have an admin that is basically trying to get people to get vaccines for some sort of honor system badge and providing absolutely no incentive to do so in the most polarized time in modern history while every opposing political figurehead (including Trump) is seeing the low hanging fruit and gaming it to energize their base.

I just visited New York and frankly, the rest of the country could take some lessons. Vaccines ARE the key to normal life there, at least wherever I went in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Bushwick. Even the s***tiest dive bar asked for ID and vax proof at the door. It takes so f***ing little effort and frankly, even if Biden's not going to nut up, it's a capitalistic inevitability that businesses will realize it's the long-term profitable choice. Look at the live music industry - it's a matter of continued existence for them.

Whether any of us want to admit it or not, they've just chosen what we're all going to be forced to choose down the line BEFORE things get worse rather than after.
