I’m sure there’s some behind the scenes provision or process that’s stopping that from happening. Seems like giving licensing to AM exclusively for streaming only on their platform might be super expensive too. Which is why most artists would only do that for like a week or so.

I think Frank Ocean was the last straw and streaming platforms made a deal with labels that their artists can't drop exclusively on one platform and not the others, mainly the big 2 Spotify and Apple. Obviously Drake is independent and UMG only handles distribution but that's the main problem, they can't only distribute through Apple and not Spotify. Drake is free to do whatever he wants for example randomly upload to Instagram but we don't know much more about his deal

I think the spontaneity of his music dropping is a bit abnormal for an artist with his level of pull and following, so he might personally prefer a song to just drop online bc it's instant, and ignore that profit loss.
