Youth is a lie. It is evil. Those who claim to enjoy it are deluding themselves and others. They fit the events and environment around them to the youth mold as self-confirmation. They will fit any commonly held interpretations of life events to this mold in the name of youth. To them, lies, secrets, sins and failures are but seeds of spice in their youth. Supposedly, such failures were an indication of youth, then one who has failed to make friends must also be at the height of his youth. But, they would disagree on this point. Everything must fit into their preconstructed mold.

Kaleido Star - 6/10

The more I watch anime that's aimed at literal f***ing children, the more I become convinced that children's anime is the best anime genre.

I find that shows aimed at teenagers are generally too focused on re-affirming their target audience's world view and creating a picture perfect escape for them. No, you do not see through all the "fake" people at your school. No, not all adults are useless. But the anime they consume won't tell them that. The need to re-affirm an immature view of the world results in tough topics being handled immaturely by those shows.

In contrast, children's anime is more focused on providing guidance to its audience. The messages in children's anime are aimed at helping those children grow into responsible, mature, respectable adults, and I find that results in children's anime handling tough topics with more grace and maturity than any late night airing anime ever could. Handling real world conflicts generally requires emotional growth, not laser beams.

And ultimately, sometimes its just nice to revel in positivity. Shows about characters enjoying their everyday life and the relationships they have with each other counts as serious art too. Obsessing about "mature" anime with "mature" content is quite frankly the quickest way to expose your immaturity.
