It's weird how high minded the premise is with debt being coercion and the shift from organized crime to public institution revealing the same oppressive forces. But the plot is written like outline of itself. Maybe it gets better. I'm only like three issues in.

His writingstyle is unconventional, it's ofcourse not gonna be for everyone.
It's short so best to just finish it and then conclude your thoughts because it has quite a few tonal shifts.

It's not the subject matter or tone that is the problem. It's how the plot is almost stream of conscious. There's no patience in it. It feels abridged. Like a plot summary.

Depending on what's decided is whether I will read it or not. I saw the OG anime version and loved it, but I cannot commit to all of those manga chapters if there won't be an end. I'm kind of torn on whether they should continue it or not unless they had a clear idea on how he wanted things to end.

Im gonna be honest, i think you should read it even if it never ends, and i think it wont because in japan they usually dont touch an author's work after their death out of respect. And i say you should read it because even if it continues it wont be the original author's true vision, because only he knew all the events leading to the end itself and how to convey them, at best the people taking over would inevitably add their own twist which could be good but still wont be the original artist's true vision. Miura and only miura knew how the story would've gone, his assistants and editors at best know the essential bits on a surface level. So even getting those we'd lose the nuance that often makes the best moments in the manga that im not sure his assistants would get.

These are just my two cents as a fan tho, im not gonna force you or anything lol, but you'd only do yourself a disservice if you put aside this work for this reason imho
