I’m ok with a monster of the week format in anime. I think they did it well here because the monsters shown are interesting and relevant to the anime’s themes.

I agree with you that the end, doesn’t really show any of the characters conclusion. While it shows great character development for Ai, and emphasizes her change throughout the anime, it’s still not justified because the entire WEP project might be pointless, so why did she have to risk her life? If these guys wanted to help some grieving girls, just send them to therapy?

Neiru, Rika and Momo don’t get any resolution. While we had good episodes centered around them, it’s not shown that they accepted their friend’s suicide. Instead in Rika and Momo’s case it’s undermined by them being forced to eat the animal and in Neiru’s case, we still don’t know who or what her “sister” is and why she stabbed her and committed suicide. (They might show it in the movie tho).

Ep 13 is a good episode to stop watching. No cliff hanger ending and big fight just ended.

Fun action show. It's also the only show I have ever watched dubbed and I'd recommended checking out at least one episode dubbed to see which one you prefer tbh.

my rank of shows this season so far:

1) Vivy (first 4 episodes: 9/10 so far): This one right here is an all timer and one of the best anime originals ever created. Anyone who is still not sure about this anime needs to drop whatever they're doing and watch it right now. The art and animation here is likely not going to be topped for the rest of the year and there is a beautifully told story on top of fantastic music. Just an incredibly strong start all around.

2) Fruits Basket: The Final (3 episodes in: 8-8.5/10): I mean, its Fruits Basket so yeah. This adaptation has been incredible so far and probably one of the best anime adaptations we will ever see from a long running manga. S2 is one of my favorite anime of all time and so far this hasn't gotten to that level just yet (to be fair it just started), but I won't be surprised if it surpasses it by the end.

3) Megalo Box S2 (2 episodes in so far: 8/10): I enjoyed the first season but man the first 2 episodes here were such a gut punch to what felt like a pretty generic story the first season. We are introduced to something that feels more like Cowboy Bebop mixed with Logan or something. I do hope this show can continue that momentum, instead of regressing back to the very formulaic nature of the first season.

4) To Your Eternity (2 episodes in: 7.5-8/10): I thought the first 2 episodes were definitely pretty strong and the worldbuilding has been my favorite aspect of this show so far. The emotional sentimentality kinda came across a bit too predictable in the first episode but it definitely could have been much worse. They handled the storytelling pretty well so far. Definitely excited to see where this goes.

5. Hige Wo Soru (4 eps in: 7/10): Aight look... theres def some problematic ass s*** going on in the anime adaptation when it comes to the shot composition and it seriously threatens the integrity of the story being told. But at least so far, this anime has done a pretty solid job with tackling the relationship between a runaway high school girl and a young adult. I do believe this anime is more than just some seriously awful moments where it wants to perv on this teenage girls body, because the story genuinely seeks to present her as a human being and as someone who is trying to come to terms with being used for her body and trying to understand what decency actually means. I hope the story keeps going in this route because its rare that I have seen a taboo subject like this being portrayed in a way that doesn't feel overly preachy, despite the flaws.

6) 86 (2 eps in: 6.5-7/10): Yeah, I mean so far this is definitely promising. But I also wouldn't be surprised if this just ends up being a generic mecha show. The worldbuilding isn't really anything to write home about. The music is fantastic (as usual from Sawano) and the animation is decent enough to make the fight scenes work. But yeah, I'm still not sure what kind of show this is going to end up being.

7) My Hero Academia S5 (2 eps in: 6/10): I mean the first 2 eps have felt p filler-y. Its whatever, still enjoyable if you like the characters and the universe. But I think we all just waiting for the supposed great manga arcs to kick in.

There's 2 seasons worth more of content and I'd argue the story can still be drawn out even with the endgame tier development it got recently. Consider too that its monthly release it really will take a while before they wrap it up

Anime watchers are not gon be prepared for the manga though 😬
