i gotta read the raw for this there's no way it comes off this way natively
You in for a ride. Movies aren’t in chronological order till after the the 4th or 5th as you probably know but it makes the mystery and experience even better. Plus it has the Goatest Ost I’ve ever heard. I love that very dark and dreamlike atmosphere the movies give out. Shiki is also a great character
The soundtrack so far has been fire. After the second movies end I'm hype to find out what happens in that five year gap
Shiki is wild

It’s toned down in later volumes, which makes sense considering Tomozaki is getting closer to his female friends. Pretty cool, i love the LN

Not really a spoiler but so you can kinda have a timeline in mind this is the chronological order of the events of the movies. 2, 4, 3, 1, 5, 6, 7, epilogue. Movie 5 is the best mind f*** I’ve ever been through

Oh okay. I just finished 4 tonight, hoping I get some more insight on what exactly happened to land her in the hospital. Right now im guessing she just got hit by a car when she had him pinned and the knife hit her but glad I got 5 to look forward to for tomorrow

Horimiya
Good:
The writing! Horimiya is a refreshing romance because it doesn't fail where other romance anime do - it doesn't do stupid misunderstandings that drag over multiple episodes. Every problem is resolved by talking it out! The romance feels natural and romantic! There is a lot happening over a single episode. They also tackle character's personal lives and problems without being overdramatic. It's all really lighthearted and sweet as this type of anime should be.
Hori and Miyamura. Both Hori and Miyamura are mature characters. They have bold, quirky, distinct personalities. In a conflict, they talk to each other. They also communicate what they feel to each other. They actually seem to get along and have chemistry between them and they don't feel like they're together just because of "plot". Even little moments between them that are not necessary, hold significance and build emotional weight to the characters. There is a lot of focus on Miyamura's life before and after, this is an interesting coming of age arc for him within the show. It shows that the relationship is meaningful to the characters and they're not just slapped together like in many romance anime. Also they're cute af.
The animation is pretty good. The sound isn't really exceptional but I like the opening theme.
The tone! It's just sweet and wholesome. The funny moments are funny, the romantic moments are romantic. It sparks emotion where it tries to. It doesn't feel try hard or too basic, and it has subtlety. It knows it's a romance but can play into a romance's strengths well.
Bad:
The pacing is off. It pains me to say this because in the first episodes I loved how fast it's going. By the last episode I realize it didn't feel like a year has passed in our character's lives. It would've been better off spread out with more stories and more episodes.
The story is "generic". This is not a flaw to me because I like slice of life. I like school festivals and fireworks. But there's no unique plot here apart from "opposites attract" maybe.
Too many characters. There are like 10 characters in Hori and Miyamura's group, and we don't care about any of them. Horimiya centered episodes are by far the best episodes, and truthfully I don't remember any of the other characters names. Either focus on 4-5 main characters (works for a 13 episode slice of life) or spread it out and give characters time to breathe. Some of them seemed interesting, but an episode or two is not enough for me to care about them. I wouldn't mind if it was just about Hori and Miyamura, btw.
Not enough Hori. This is the final and most important flaw to me. I feel like there were maybe, 2-3 Hori centered episodes throughout the season. There have been a lot of Miyamura character development which was great, but Hori is as much as a main character as him. She was my initial interest in the anime. We know her family and that's nice, but there aren't a lot of her own thoughts and dilemmas shown.
Overall:
I enjoyed the anime. While not the refreshing masterpiece I wanted it to be (from the first episode) and while my Horimiya enthusiasm slowly faded away, I still think this is one of my favorite romance/slice of life anime, and I'd recommend it.
8/10
Manga is kinda better cause there is more horimiya stories, but they skip almost the entire back half of the manga.
There isn't much plot development except miya becoming a less introverted person.
Which I can't be too mad at because I like how lax and fun it was. Otherwise it would have to compete with Nana in complexity lol
