In terms of content, they're nothing alike. SZS is a satire that focuses A LOT on making fun of societal topics. The show is pretty cynical and loves talking about how ridiculous and stupid the world is. It's from a Japanese perspective though, so even though there are topics that can be understood across cultures, there might be some that you miss out on if you're not familiar with Japanese culture. It has a ton of references to other anime/manga works too: you'll probably miss out on a bunch of them unless you're super well-versed in anime/manga. I know for a fact that when I watched it like 6 years ago, about 90% of the anime/manga references went over my head.

Visually, it was the blueprint for Shaft's future series like Monogatari and Madoka. SZS was Shaft at their creative prime, and they haven't been the same since.
