Last Period: The Journey to the End of the Despair - 7/10
Over the years I've grown quite fond of a certain niche of anime that I haven't exactly found a term for. These shows usually have a s***ty hand dealt to them: whether its their lack of resources or their s***ty premise/setting - yet they still try their hardest and have some sort of vision.
Last Period is a low budget adaptation of a gacha game and has a s***ty, generic fantasy premise. Unlike other gacha game adaptations that play it straight and follow through with that s***ty, generic premise - the show decided to parody everything that moved.
The jokes throughout the show cover a lot of topics: the amount of money that gacha addicts run through in order to summon rare units, Apple vs Android, the Kemono Friends incident, and a s*** ton more. The show is very self-aware which gives it quite a few bonus points in my eyes: it's easy to dunk on others, but having the confidence to dunk on yourself is something a little more rare.
Is the show perfect? No, not really. It doesn't have the thematic depth or character development that I value most in anime. But the show doesn't really give a f*** about those flaws, and it just wants to have fun with itself - I couldn't help but get swept up in the fun too.
Didn’t expect to watch The Journey of Elaina but it has some good potential to being one of the better seasonal series
Crazy cuz the dated animation still holds up today
Forreals one of the few anime’s from that era that doesn’t feel/look dated at all

Is the Fate series worth watching and where should i start?
Yes. Fate Zero then Fate Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works. You don’t have to watch Fate Stay Night (2006)
need to find a fan translation ASAP

@First_Take thanks for recommending this
man watching this dragon quest anime got me wanting to see the original spell translations even though i never grew up with them. the usual names work fine for the games but i get taken out of the immersion so fast when its a dope fight scene on screen and the subtitles are "kaboom" "sizzle" "kaswooshle"
Jujutsu Kaisen actually the first new anime I watched this year
