Act-Age officially axed. Shame, was really excited about an eventual anime adaptation. Hopefully the artist finds another gig.

Thought about doing it after watching the movie... saw some scenes from Hibike and the animation looks amazing
I finished arc 4 of the Re:Zero LN, the Sanctuary arc. And mannnnnnnnnn lemme tell yall. The climax was some HEAT! Idk how they're pacing this season, but I'd say it should take like 36~ episodes minimum unless they cut through a lot of stuff.

this sounds right up my alley then, ive been vibing with SoL shows a lot lately and concert band was also a huge part of my own high school life as well as having a ton of appreciation for music in anime in general. definitely gonna start it after i finish up barakamon real quick.
Yall peeped Deca-Dence? You like it?
One of my favourites this season. Story-wise its by far the most ambitious anime this season (and probably of the year.)
another beautiful episode of fruits basket man.
When this season ends, it’s probably gonna be the biggest void I’ve felt with a show since made in abyss
im enjoying barakamon a lot so far, the way the other characters clown MC after he be saying some corny anime s*** got me dying

Spent the last month working through Haruhi Suzumiya in broadcast order and, tonight, all 3 hours of Disappearance.
Spoilers, sort of, though I think most people who read this and haven't seen the show won't be able to get much out of my post one way or the other.
I didn't love the show, but I did like it for the most part. The episode where they show the movie is one of the f***ing funniest things I've ever watched and the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya arc is fantastic. The less significant episodes showed some cracks...I got really annoyed with Haruhi, specifically the way she was constantly molesting Mikuru. At first I really liked Mikuru's character, but she was so broken by the end of season 2 that she was barely functional. Actually really sad to watch and I'm not sure if that was the intention. Never really decided how I felt about Kyon. Koizumi and Nagato are goated.
Season 2 was frustrating not because of Endless Eight but because it didn't further the narrative significantly if watched in broadcast order. A lot of it felt like filler. In fact, Endless Eight was actually the most significant element of the whole season besides the time travel opener (which I loved). Endless Eight's first couple episodes are actually fantastic, though it does get dull over multiple repetitions and I wasn't thrilled with how it wrapped up. Like...it was fine, but I was expecting more after 8 episodes of the same content.
As someone who got some enjoyment out of the show but only loved it on occasion, I loved Disappearance despite some flaws. It doesn't shake up the status quo the way I hoped it would, the pacing is VERY languid, the score (besides Satie) is distracting in a way that calls attention to this being a movie and not the series proper, and most of the narrative progression is shoved into the final third, to its detriment.
But, when you get right down to it, it has everything I liked about the show and very little of what I didn't. The tone is stark and beautiful. I greatly enjoyed the character development of Kyon and Nagato; their meeting over tea at her apartment absolutely ached. So much of the film was emotive in a way that didn't feel forced; the contrast between Kyon's lives was so sharply illustrated through visuals and atmosphere that I didn't second guess his sudden fondness for the life he constantly whined about. Haruhi was more tolerable here than usual.
Even if they had never seen a second of the show, I think a casual viewer would enjoy the film quite a bit. But if you've pored over the series, including the Endless Eight (which adds a ton of weight to Nagato's arc), the emotional tenor of the film shifts dramatically.
Overall, I'm glad I watched the show, and I would recommend it for Disappearance if nothing else, which is an objectively great anime film. There maybe 10-12 episodes of the series that are unmissable too if you love anime. The rest is generally fine but not Kyoto Animation's best work.
