MAL scores are a pretty trash metric imo
The more hyped and accessible shows will always have higher rating
Like MHA and KNY should not be getting ~9/10 lmao
Finished steins gate a couple days ago after dropping it when it first came out.
First half was really good but it fell apart the second half imo.
Watching this made me want rezero s2 even more
Ferris wheel scene
my favorite scene by far, I'll remember that scene for years.
the highway-shooting scene was dope too but for different reasons
really beginning to appreciate LOGH this time around. tried watching it in 2012 when I was new to anime and absolutely couldn't get over the slow pace.
You're right there isn't a right or wrong in art, but this is the general theme I've seen when it comes to people labelling anime.
Trash = High amount of viewers, liked by casual watchers but disliked by hardcore watchers.
Expert = Not popular, liked by hardcore watchers but disliked by the few casual watchers who ended up giving it a try.
Then there's stuff like Hunter x Hunter, FMA:B, Monogatari, Haikyuu, etc., which have a high amount of viewers and are liked by both casual and hardcore viewers.
Heh idc about no one who ranks One Piece "trash" by your ranking, it's GOAT
haru is really gonna get the short end of the stick in yesterday
i can't stand this guy Rou either

One Piece most definitely fits into the same category as Monogatari, HxH, FMA:B, ect.
I think a better example of the "trash" category that Tranquility presents (not actually calling this show/manga trash) is My Hero Academia. Stuff that is majorly popular and liked by a casual audience generally gets s*** because people think disliking popular things is a personality trait.

Kinda off-tangent here, but while I agree that people only disliking popular things because they're popular are dumb, people who think its impossible for someone to dislike popular things for legitimate reasons are just as dumb.

Need a new season asap
I've been meaning to ask this for awhile but, how much attention do you guys pay to stuff like mal reviews/scores, subreddits and youtube reviews?
like, is any of that enough to make you drop/dislike a series or make you pick up a certain series just by how popular it is?
personaly, I have what some would call a ''trash taste'' but if I can emotionaly connect to a story or character then I'm sold.
0 tbh. Admittedly I’m not as plugged into anime right now, but even when I am I usually don’t read any reviews. If it’s a battle Shonen I might use YouTube to see if it has decent looking fight scenes, if it does I will check it out.
If it’s more of a niche anime I will check here every now and then. But most of the time I just read the synopsis. If it sounds like something I like I’ll watch it. I recently did this with this one anime on Amazon Prime “Kokkoku” ain’t know s*** bout it, nobody I asked knew anything about it and I went ahead n binged it. I thoroughly ended up loving it.

I definitely think a lot of these popular anime have things that are legitimately dislikeable about them, the thing I personally have a lot of gripes with is people claiming shows are objectively bad for ___ reason instead of just being able to admit they just don't like it, if that makes sense.
