I’m like 9 episodes in. It’s pretty good
Monster f***ed my head up when I was done. One of my all time favorites

Gonna run through it once my school semester ends

this how it be
I feel like a big difference between the mediums you listed and mainstream anime is that a lot of mainstream anime is associated with high school age protagonists
Certain niches of anime are pretty much confined to that setting and age group of characters.
I'm also in early 20s and to me thats not manga/anime I look for. Honestly a lot of those kind of projects give me a sort of melancholic feel especially if I'm going through a rougher/uncertain path irl. They feel really escapist to me as a result and I try to avoid them.
Know its probably unrelated to what the guy you quoted meant but still feel its relevant in relation to age vs approach to anime
Nah it's definitely related: seen some people fall out of anime (or not watch as much as they used to) because of that reason.
Personally, I'm in my mid 20s and I don't really care about the setting and age of characters. How well a show handles its themes, character development, cinematography, and animation (which are the four things I care about most in anime) are all independent of a shows setting or age of characters. So people like me will still stick around as we get older.
I also think there's enough anime being made with non-high school settings/older characters to keep people busy (I think, I'm not really sure how much anime the average person watches). This season alone there are 5 shows with non-high school settings/older characters. At that point if someone is having trouble finding them its more of a problem with them and less of a problem with anime in my opinion.
Anyone got any recommendations for what to watch next? I'm thinking Bleach, Monster or just finally starting Naruto.
Naruto
caught up with jujutsu kaisen, was pretty generic at the start but it's really good now
Yo pretty random but do you guys see anime fandom as a sort of transitory , fleeting experience? I’m in my early 20s and it feels like before I know it I’ll be a dust head , gradually becoming disconnected from anime culture and the young characters who resonate(d) with me to the point that I lose interest in the medium altogether as life starts to get in the way more and more
Obviously nobody gets to be young forever. But anime has been such a big part of my life for basically my entire life... I can’t imagine growing old and disconnected from the scene. The thought sickens me tbh
Idk jus late night existential quarantined thoughts 🤷♂️
Honestly, i already fell out with Anime a bit since last year or so. At least, i don't watch that many new seasonal shows anymore. I think Anime is just too much connected with Otaku culture nowadays and a lot of the shows are just samey. Don't see myself falling out with Manga because its a more versatile medium imo. Lately i've been reading a lot of older classics and there are a lot of amazing stories out there.
I am only watching one show this season and i don't have the same hunger anymore to go through the whole season to find something worthwhile. But all that, has nothing to do with the age of the characters. Highschool stories, now have a nostalgia angle for me because i can remember things from my highschool days through that.
I still enjoy Anime overall though. Really like Kakushigoto this season.

To a degree I feel that way but it ends up being moreso as you maybe not being as open to giving certain genres a shot like you used to.
For example, I mainly went into anime to watch romance slice of life type stuff and I would end up watching stuff like D Frag or Familiar of Zero and nowadays I’m more picky about the stuff I pick up or I will even just drop a show pretty quick if I’m not feeling it (dropped Eizouken despite being a big Yuasa fan).
This season though, there’s been a lot of stuff im enjoying and this is probably the highest number of anime in 1 season that I’ve been watching in well over a year.
