Are they autonomous? Do they fight for anyone or are they basically like wild animals

They're highly sophisticated AI gone haywire essentially, and they were created by and following the orders of the Giad Empire. Giad Empire ceases to exists however, so they're still following out their last order for eternity I guess or until they wipe out everyone else? They have some kind of chain or command structure, hence the 86 that get their heads taken and are like the smarter stronger units of the Legion.

Ok I wasn't sure if the Giad empire was still off in their own country somewhere or not.
